Nottingham Forest midfielder Morgan Gibbs-White is set to replace injured Cole Palmer in the Three Lions squad.
Gibbs was not called up for the last World Cup, in which England emerged in third place, defeating France 6-4.
Forest playmaker Gibbs-White came very close to being called up according to Blues boss Thomas Tuchel who confirmed this during his press conference on Friday, while the 26-year-old is set to step into the boots of Chelsea’s Palmer.
England national team manager Thomas Tuchel had recalled Cole Palmer, despite having surprisingly omitted him from his list for the upcoming World Cup.
Unfortunately for Palmer, he will now miss the extended international break where the Three Lions will play four matches.
The reason behind Palmer’s exit is that he featured in the entire match for Chelsea as they lost 3-0 to Brentford on Friday night.
The 28-year-old, who has had a break since he missed out on World Cup qualification, has featured in six of Chelsea’s seven matches and been on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes in five of those games – scoring four times and setting up two more.
Palmer suffered from an ankle injury last season which former Chelsea head coach Enzo Maresca (now City boss) claimed didn’t make any sense.
Palmer last featured for England as they lost 1-0 in a friendly against Japan back in March, per BBC Sport.
Gibbs-White last appeared for England when they beat Wales 3-0 in a friendly match in October 2025.
Gibbs-White has netted one goal and provided two assists in Forest’s five league games.
