In response to the accusations that Manchester City is guilty of a majority of Premier League charges, Manchester City Chief Executive Ferran Soriano has sent a firm message to the other executives.
Ferran Soriano made this statement during a board meeting of European Football Clubs (formerly the ECA) held in Copenhagen prior to the general assembly of Tuesday.
Copenhagen Address
The report suggests that Soriano said he would fight the charges and the process is far from over, just as his chairman, Khaldoon Al Mubarak, had stated in his letter to the fans.
As per the Press Association, Soriano was quoted saying to the executives “it’s taken eight years to get here and it’s going to take a lot more time,” in relation to the beginning of the investigation by the Premier League in 2018.
Afterwards, Soriano went out of the meeting without answering any question from the journalists.
Furthermore, the report suggests that the attendees of the meeting include Manchester United’s Chief of International Football Relations Jean-Claude Blanc and Dan Friedkin who is an Everton owner but attended the meeting as a Roma owner.
Legal help is sought by Premier League clubs regarding compensation related to the charges, whereas, according to the BBC Sport, it has been said that the city will appeal against the charges.
Potential Sanctions & Appeals
There are no sanctions yet, but there might be some consequences like deduction of points, relegation of the team from the first league, or imposition of hefty fines.
Commenting on the case, the Premier League refused to give any statement, while the city stated, “the Premier League process remains ongoing with significant elements to be completed, and subject to strict confidentiality”.
“The Premier League process still has a long way to run, and our confidence and intent in proving the club’s innocence is just as strong as when this began,” he said.
“There are so many things that I would like to be able to share with you to help you understand why we feel so confident in our position.
“But the strict confidentiality of the legal process and our determination to respect it means I cannot do that at the moment. Even this letter underwent several legal checks to make sure it complies.”
