Basketball’s biggest stage is set for a new home. The Host Nation for the FIBA World Cup in 2031 has been revealed, and fans can already feel the anticipation building. Yankee Scores reports.

Global Impact

The FIBA World Cup is one of the sport’s premier events, bringing together the best national teams from around the globe. The host of the last edition of the FIBA World Cup in 2023 was Japan, Philippines and Indonesia, while the next edition of the FIBA World Cup Qatar will take center stage (2027),. But all eyes are already on 2031. The World Cup is returning to Europe, but the BIG question is, which nation will take center stage?

Hosting Rights Confirmed

After three consecutive editions in Asia (China (2019), Japan, Indonesia, Philippines (2023), and Qatar (2027)), the tournament will return to Europe for the first time since Spain (2014).

The FIBA Central Board has officially awarded France the hosting rights for the 2031 Basketball World Cup. Three cities, Lille, Lyon, and Paris, will stage the tournament from August 29 to September 14, with the final phase taking place in Paris.

The FIBA Central Board has assigned the hosting rights of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2031 to France.

Why France?

Although this will be France’s first time hosting the FIBA World Cup, they have a strong résumé of organizing tournament. They hosted the Eurobasket in 2015, in 2020, they hosted the FIBA Women’s Olympic Qualifying Tournament. France has become a global basketball powerhouse, producing stars like Tony Parker, Rudy Gobert, and Victor Wembanyama.

Hosting the World Cup adds another milestone to the nation’s growing legacy in the sport. The country’s infrastructure and passionate fan base made it an ideal choice.

Looking Ahead At 2031

With five years to prepare, France will focus on delivering a world‑class experience for players and fans alike. The 2031 edition promises unforgettable moments, and Paris will once again be the center of global sports when the final tips off.
