Memphis Grizzlies and point guard Jordan Hawkins have mutually agreed to part ways through waivers, which will let the 2023 lottery pick seek a new team in free agency.
According to ESPN reporter Shams Charania, this development came three weeks since he was brought in as a part of the deal involving four players between Memphis Grizzlies and New Orleans Pelicans that sent AJ Johnson and Taj Gibson.

At 24, Hawkins was averaging 5.1 points in 51 appearances last season but had a hard time getting consistent minutes in a congested backcourt in New Orleans. Hawkins, who plays perimeter shooting, logged only 13.6 minutes per game last season, a sharp contrast from the 23.6 minutes per game and 10.8 points per game in the 2024-25 season.
Hawkins was drafted 14th overall in 2023 draft by New Orleans Pelicans, two years ahead of the regime change that saw Joe Dumars replacing David Griffin as the chief of basketball operations.
The New Orleans Pelicans drafted Hawkins with their fourteenth pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. Hawkins achieved his career-best of 34 points and 5 rebounds on January 13, 2024, as the Pelicans defeated the Dallas Mavericks by a score of 118-108.
