The New York Jets have landed safety, Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Miami Dolphins,Yankee Scores reports.

According to Adam Schefter on X,  the move comes in exchange for a 2026 seventh-round pick originally from the Chargers.

Contract details

Following the trade, Fitzpatrick will sign a three-year, $40 million deal, per his agent Drew Rosenhaus. The agreement ensures the Jets secure one of the league’s most versatile safeties while giving Fitzpatrick long-term stability in New York. His contract reflects both his value and the Jets’ urgency to strengthen their secondary.

Why Fitzpatrick fits the Jets

Fitzpatrick’s ability to cover deep zones, play in the box, and create turnovers makes him a perfect addition to the Jets’ defense. His leadership and experience will complement a unit already built around young stars. For New York, this move signals a clear commitment to building a championship-caliber roster.

Dolphins’ perspective

Miami’s decision to move Fitzpatrick for a late-round pick reflects a shift in roster priorities. While the return is modest, the Dolphins free up cap space and can redirect resources toward other needs. Fitzpatrick, meanwhile, gets a fresh start with a team eager to maximize his skill set.
