JuJu Watkins is back in the spotlight, but this time it’s not about her stat sheet. Her latest move with Nike signals a powerful comeback story, Yankee Scores reports.

From ACL Tear to Signature Shoe

Watkins’ journey took a dramatic turn last March when she tore the ACL in her right knee during the NCAA Tournament against Mississippi State. The injury ended a spectacular sophomore season in which she averaged 23.9 points, 6.8 rebounds, and earned multiple accolades, including the Naismith College Player of the Year and the John R. Wooden Award.

Now, one year later, she’s channeling her recovery into something historic. According to The Athletic, Watkins will release her first signature shoe with Nike this summer, becoming the first athlete under LeBron James’ NXXT line. The news was also highlighted by Sports Business Journal (@SBJ).

Silver Lining in Watts

The shoe, named the LeBron NXXT Gen by JuJu “Silver Lining”, was unveiled in her hometown of Watts. Details like quilted flower patterns and “fat laces” pay homage to her Los Angeles roots. Watkins explained: “The shoe, it’s just extra motivation. Working out in something you created, I think it’s insane. I can’t wait to get out on the court and actually play in it.”

LeBron James himself wore the sneaker before a Lakers-Warriors game, underscoring his support. Watkins said: “LeBron has been a role model of mine since I’ve started basketball… To have him trust me with this process is insane.”

Supporting USC While Healing

Though sidelined, Watkins has remained a vocal leader for USC. She continues to mentor teammates and imagines herself in game situations from the bench. “I’m in a really good place,” she told The Athletic, emphasizing her growth even while recovering.
