Cooper Flagg’s rise in the NBA has taken another sharp turn, and this time it involves a record once held by Kobe Bryant, YankeeSports reports.

The Dallas Mavericks rookie continues to make headlines with performances that demand attention.

Flagg surpasses Bryant’s teenage scoring mark

According to Real Sports, Flagg has now recorded more 20-plus point games as a teenager than Kobe Bryant managed. His latest came in Friday night’s loss to the Cleveland Cavaliers, where he finished with 25 points, 4 rebounds, and 5 assists on 8-of-16 shooting.

That outing pushed him to 25 games of 20 points or more, eclipsing Bryant’s tally. For context, he has scored fewer than 20 points in 30 games, meaning nearly half of his appearances have hit that milestone.

Rookie season numbers tell the story

Flagg’s averages underline his impact: 20.0 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game, alongside 1.1 steals and 0.9 blocks. His free-throw shooting has been flawless in recent outings, though his three-point percentage (29.5%) remains the one area needing improvement.

Still, for a player who was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft, the numbers reflect a rookie season worthy of the hype.

The Mavericks’ future face

The Mavericks now face the challenge of building around Flagg, who is quickly establishing himself as the face of their future. His ability to deliver consistently at such a young age makes him not only a cornerstone for Dallas but also one of the league’s most exciting prospects.

As The Sporting News reported, Flagg’s performances are “an impressive slice of league history,” and his trajectory suggests this is only the beginning.

The Mavs have to continue to figure out how to build around Flagg going forward, but right now, he’s doing his best to make it clear that he’s the face of their future.
