The New England Patriots will release wide receiver Stefon Diggs after the start of the new league year on March 11, according to ESPN and court records. Diggs, 32, signed a three-year, $63.5 million deal last offseason but will depart after just one season in Foxborough.
“THANK YOU for a hell of a year. We family forever,” Diggs wrote in an Instagram story following the news.
Productive but Short Tenure
In 2025, his 11th NFL season, Diggs led the Patriots in receptions, targets, and receiving yards. He finished with 85 catches for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns, proving he could still produce at a high level.
The Maryland product now has the chance to join a fourth team in four years, after stints with the Buffalo Bills (2023), Houston Texans (2024), and Patriots (2025).
Vrabel Praises Diggs’ Effort
At the NFL combine last week, Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel praised Diggs for his leadership and commitment.
“He worked extremely hard in the time that he was rehabbing from the knee,” Vrabel said, referencing Diggs’ recovery from a torn ACL in 2024. “I think he was just a really good presence each and every week.”
Diggs’ future also carries uncertainty due to ongoing legal issues. He faces strangulation and assault allegations stemming from a December altercation with his personal chef. Diggs pleaded not guilty to felony strangulation or suffocation and misdemeanor assault and battery during his February arraignment.
Vrabel noted that Diggs had complied with court requirements but emphasized that the team would wait for judgments in the case before making further evaluations. Diggs is scheduled for another pre-trial hearing on April 1.
