Mikel Arteta has committed himself to an improved contract with the champions of the English Premier League Arsenal.
The player’s existing contract runs out at the end of this season, but negotiations on the new deal have been going on for some time.
Earlier this month, BBC Sport claimed that a deal between both sides was imminent.
Now it appears that Mikel Arteta has finally signed a new contract with the Gunners extending his time with the club.
There is no information regarding the duration of his new deal, but it appears that it will take him to at least his 10th year with the club since he joined in December 2019.
His new contract will involve a massive salary hike from his existing salary of £10m per annum, plus an extra £5m in bonuses.
Speaking about his contract talks, Arteta said last week: “They [the fans] don’t have to worry about any of that because I want to be here. I’m extremely happy and I feel very grateful to work with the people I work with.”
Former player Arteta returned to Arsenal as a manger in 2019 having served as an assistant coach under Pep Guardiola at Manchester City.
Arteta guided Arsenal to their first league title in since the 2014 last season. The Spaniard is now Arsenal’s seventh-longest serving manager by games managed and the longest-serving current Premier League manager.
