Sinner said he was withdrawing on Sunday, revealing that a right knee issue has been hurting him for weeks.
He also apologized to fans and the tournament for not playing the event, saying he’s now focused on getting well for the US Open, per CincyTennis via X
Sinner missed last week’s tournament in Montreal with the same knee ailment, and has not played a match since beating Alexander Zverev to win his fifth Grand Slam championship at Wimbledon in July.
To add even more to this significant news, Sinner isn’t the only prominent performer missing from Cincinnati.
World No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz has also pulled out, still struggling with a wrist issue that has kept him sidelined since April.
The Cincinnati Open suffers a massive blow to its star power mere days before it kicks off as the No. 1 and No. 2 players will pass on the tournament.
