While the Wolves struggled to find the bottom of the net, the San Antonio Spurs took flight, carving out a commanding 25-point lead that left Minnesota searching for answers; Yankee Scores reports.

Wembanyama led the way for the Spurs with 19 points and 15 rebounds in their 133-95 victory over Minnesota, putting the Spurs’ series against the Timberwolves level at 1 game apiece, handing the latter their worst ever postseason defeat in franchise history.

Spurs’ Scoring Prowess On Display

Castle put up 21 points in San Antonio’s victory, along with 16 more from De’Aaron Fox, as the Spurs shot 50% from the field and 41% from behind the arc. It is San Antonio’s highest-scoring playoff game since their 145-105 victory over Denver that clinched the series on May 4, 1983.

On the losing side, Anthony Edwards, Julius Randle, Jaden McDaniels, and Terrence Shannon Jr., each put up 12 points in defeat. Once again, Edwards did not play the full game because of a hyperextended left knee, his second time coming off the bench in his return to action.

Games 3 and 4 will be played Friday and Sunday, respectively, in Minneapolis.

With Wembanyama going at the rim more aggressively early on, the Spurs put their season-opening loss behind them rapidly.

Minnesota’s previous defeat in the postseason prior to Wednesday had come by 30 points, which they had not conceded since a 108-78 loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on April 29, 2003.

With only the scoreline in question Wednesday night, both teams benched their starters after 10 minutes when the Spurs led 104-66.

Decisive Opening-Half Surge

After managing just 21 combined points on 10-for-31 shooting in Game 1, Wembanyama and Fox shot 12-for-25 on Wednesday.

Together, the All-Stars scored the Spurs’ first 11 points in what proved an opening-half 29-point surge.

The Spurs missed their first three shots, but with the third, Wembanyama went coast-to-coast for a right-handed slam and got his first points.

Timberwolves’ Shooting Woes

The Timberwolves could only manage 35 points within two quarters as their field goal percentage was just 29.8 percent and they scored only 2 out of 15 attempts from outside the arc while trailing by 25 points.

Rookie Carter Bryant of the Spurs had an outstanding two-hand slam dunk to score his first points for this season.

Then Wembanyama scored via a three pointer to establish a 43-26 lead in the second quarter. In return, Dylan Harper and Castle had back to back dunks to score in a run of 11-0 that helped increase the margin to 59-34.
