Brandon Clarke

The NBA community is mourning the sudden loss of Memphis Grizzlies forward Brandon Clarke. The team, his agency, and the league confirmed Tuesday that Clarke has died at the age of 29, though no details about the cause have been released. Yankee Scores reports.

Grizzlies and NBA React

The Grizzlies issued a heartfelt statement: “We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of Brandon Clarke. Brandon was an outstanding teammate and an even better person whose impact on the organization and the greater Memphis community will not be forgotten.”

NBA Commissioner Adam Silver added, “We are devastated to learn of the passing of Brandon Clarke. He was a beloved teammate and leader who played the game with enormous passion and grit.”

Agency and Union Tributes

Clarke’s representatives at Priority Sports described him as “the gentlest soul who was the first to be there for all of his friends and family.” The National Basketball Players Association echoed the sentiment, calling his death “an incredible loss for the brotherhood.” They emphasized that Clarke will be remembered for both his joy on the court and his genuine friendships off it.

Clarke’s Career in Memphis

Drafted 21st overall in 2019 out of Gonzaga, Clarke joined Ja Morant on the NBA’s All‑Rookie team in 2020. He averaged 10.2 points and 5.5 rebounds across seven seasons, earning a multiyear extension in 2022. Injuries, including a torn Achilles in 2023, limited his appearances in recent years, but he remained a respected presence in the locker room.

Legacy and Loss

Clarke’s passing leaves a void in Memphis and across the league. Known for his energy, humility, and resilience, he was more than a player — he was a teammate and friend whose influence extended beyond basketball. The Grizzlies, still in the midst of a roster rebuild, now face the heartbreak of losing one of their longest‑tenured members.
