England striker Ivan Toney is facing charges of assault at a nightclub in central London.
The 30-year-old who plays for Al-Ahli in the Saudi Pro League was charged on 31 July after an attack that took place on Wardour Street in Soho on 6 December, per BBC Sport.
Toney who made his debut in England’s 6-4 win over France in the “bronze final” of the World Cup which took place last month, has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm.
A spokesperson for Toney said: “Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court.”
The striker began his professional career at Northampton Town and played for Newcastle, Peterborough, and Brentford prior to joining Saudia Arabia in 2024.
His inclusion in the England World Cup squad was a surprise. He managed to play only in one match besides the game against France, when he came on late in the semi-final against Argentina.
