Chet, Williams and Gilgeous-Alexander

The Oklahoma City Thunder guard Gilgeous-Alexander turned a marquee matchup into a statement win, and it came with a twist that could shake up the playoff race. Yankee Scores reports.

Gilgeous-Alexander Outshines Doncic

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 28 points to lead the Thunder in a 139-96 rout of the Los Angeles Lakers. The reigning MVP dominated his duel with Luka Doncic, who had been on a scoring tear but managed just 12 points on 3-for-10 shooting. Oklahoma City’s defense smothered him, holding him to 1-for-7 from beyond the arc.

The game took a dramatic turn when Doncic left midway through the third quarter with a left hamstring injury. Lakers coach JJ Redick confirmed he will undergo an MRI on Friday, leaving his status uncertain.

Thunder’s Offensive Explosion

Isaiah Joe added 20 points and drained six 3-pointers, while Lu Dort set the tone early with 14 points in the first quarter. Oklahoma City shot nearly 54% from the field and built a 44-21 lead after the opening period. By halftime, the Thunder had piled up 82 points, just one shy of their franchise record for points in a half.

Joe’s three triples in an 85-second span pushed the lead to 99-61 in the third, and reserves closed out the fourth as the Thunder coasted to their 16th win in 17 games.

Lakers Struggle in Historic Loss

Austin Reaves scored 15 points and LeBron James added 13, but the Lakers never found rhythm. They endured multiple scoring droughts, including nearly five minutes without a field goal to start the game. The 43-point margin marked one of the worst defeats in franchise history, falling just six points short of their all-time record loss.

The Lakers had entered the night hot, winning 13 of their last 14, but this blowout halted their momentum.

What’s Next

The Thunder, now two games ahead of San Antonio in the race for homecourt advantage, will host the Utah Jazz on Sunday. The Lakers face the Dallas Mavericks next, with Doncic’s health looming as a major storyline.

Oklahoma City’s dominance and Gilgeous-Alexander’s brilliance sent a clear message: the Thunder are ready to seize control of the West.
