The New York Giants are facing fresh questions about the health of star wide receiver Malik Nabers. The 22‑year‑old underwent a second surgery on his right knee earlier this offseason, leaving his Week 1 status against the Dallas Cowboys in doubt. Yankee Scores reports.
Surgery Details
Malik Nabers had a “cleanup” procedure to remove scar tissue that was causing stiffness after his ACL tear last September. His initial surgery included a full meniscus repair, making recovery more complex. The Giants had hoped he would be ready for training camp in July, but that timeline has now been pushed back later into the summer.

Giants’ Optimism
Despite the setback, team officials remain hopeful Nabers will be available for the Sept. 13 Sunday Night Football opener at MetLife Stadium. “The recovery was going phenomenal,” Nabers told ESPN in February, though he admitted stiffness had slowed his progress. His original surgery was performed by renowned knee specialist Dr. Daniel E. Cooper, who also serves as the Cowboys’ team physician.
Impact on the Receiving Corps
The Giants reshaped their wide receiver group this offseason, losing Wan’Dale Robinson to Tennessee while adding Darnell Mooney, Calvin Austin III, and rookie Malachi Fields. Veteran Darius Slayton also underwent core muscle surgery, leaving the unit thin as Nabers works his way back. The team even worked out Odell Beckham Jr. in recent weeks, signaling they’re exploring options.
Nabers’ Rising Career
Before the injury, Nabers had already established himself as one of the league’s brightest young stars. He set a franchise rookie record with 109 catches for 1,204 yards in 2024, then added 18 receptions for 271 yards and two touchdowns in just four games last season. His 127 catches through 19 career games trail only Beckham for the most in NFL history through 20 contests.
