Hull City secured promotion to the Premier League after defeating Middlesbrough 1-0 in the Championship playoff at Wembley on Saturday.
This win ended a nine-year absence from the Premier League, a side that survived relegation to League One a year ago on goal difference.
“We felt we’d have one chance and I felt like it was written for me to get it,” McBurnie told broadcaster Sky Sports. “I didn’t think it would be so late on, but what a feeling.
“I couldn’t sleep last night, I was looking forward to this game so much, I am delighted.”
WE ARE PREMIER LEAGUE!!!!!!

Hull City’s Journey
Hull were first relegated in 1991 and again in 1996, but were about to secure promotions in 2003-04 and 2004-05. The gained promotion once again, defeating Bristol City in the play-off final. They got relegated two seasons later, but were promoted again in 2012.
Hull City made their first FA Cup final 2014 against Arsenal, who they lost 3-2 to after extra-time. They were finally relegated for the last time in 2017, and eventually dropped to the third tier in 2020.
They secured promotion immediately as the champions of League One at the end of the 2020-21 season.
The Tigers finished the 2025-26 season sixth on the table, retaining a spot on the championship playoffs, and a semi-final double header against Milwall City.
Despite the “spygate” drama between Southampton and Middleborough, it did not deter the Tigers in their preparations for the playoff final.
Now, they are champions and have secured the final spot of the Premier League.
