The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF) has provisionally suspended its captain, Cristiano Ronaldo, for storming out of the team camp last month.
The Al-Nassr striker angrily left Portugal’s camp during the Nations League after his bench role against Norway and learning that he would not start against Denmark.
Ronaldo has addressed the situation, emphasizing that Portugal boss Jorge Jesus broke his promise twice.
The Portuguese Football Federation (FPF), in a lengthy statement, has announced a provisional suspension for Ronaldo.
Yankee Scores had reported that Ronaldo was at risk of a suspension, given that FPF rules state any player who fails to appear or leaves the camp without authorization faces up to a six-month ban, including a fine.
Pedro Proença, president of the FPF, spoke to Portuguese outlet Record: ‘This is a time for calm and composure. We are all sitting down together at the table. There is a strong desire to have our captain back with us. There will be a normal disciplinary process.’
Ronaldo welcomed whatever punishment the federation assigns to him, apologizing to his teammates and fans for his actions.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has also insisted that he is not calling time on his international career yet, but it remains to be seen if he will return to the team with Jesus in charge.
His Portugal record speaks for itself: 146 goals in 234 appearances, both men’s world records, and he helped them win Euro 2016 and the Nations League.
He returned to action last week, scoring his 980th career goal in Al-Nassr’s 3-0 win over Diriyah Club.”
