West Ham gets a glimpse of hope after a challenging season, but their win over Wolves just plunged Tottenham into the relegation zone, Yankee Scores reports.

Mixed Fortunes

The impressive victory for West Ham against Wolves by 4-0, which is their biggest win of the current season, lifted West Ham off the relegation table of the English Premier League and relegated Tottenham into the same relegation table.

It is now confirmed that Roberto De Zerbi will start Spurs era in relegation zone.

There is only a three-point gap between four sides battling to escape the relegation zone, with Wolves and Burnley further away.

Nuno Espirito Santo, the manager of West Ham, admitted that there is “still a lot of work to do” but termed it “a huge step” towards survival as Castellanos and Mavropanos scored double each in London Stadium.

“We are happy, extremely happy,” he told Sky Sports. “All of us deserve this kind of evening, especially our fans.

“The London Stadium today was amazing, bouncing with energy and helping us in the hard parts.”

While West Ham fans were cheering in jubilation, Tottenham fans watching the game at home must have felt terrible with each goal scored.

Tottenham, which will face Sunderland in the upcoming match under their newly appointed manager, Roberto De Zerbi, finds itself in an unusual situation.

Relegation Fears heat Up for Spurs

Spurs have escaped relegation for the past two years, even though they were performing impressively in the Europa League last year. Last year, they ended up 17th on the league table. But now, they’ve sunk to their lowest level since 2015, by being in the relegation zone.

While Spurs’ last appearance in the relegation zone was February of 1998 when they were in 18th position after 24 games, Spurs have now experienced something unique since joining the Premier League – a club sitting 18th in the league table with 31 games played.

This is something unprecedented in the Premier League era. Even more troubling for Spurs fans is the fact that in 31 seasons of the Premier League era, teams finishing in 18th place after 31 matches have been relegated 21 times.
