Liverpool have completed the signing of 18-year-old goalkeeper Luca Brughmans from Belgian side Genk in a deal believed to be in the region of £30m, including add-ons.
Brughmans has agreed a six-year contract with the Premier League giants, although he will remain on loan this season at Genk before moving to Anfield ahead of the 2027-2028 campaign.
The 6ft 7in tall goalkeeper has started all four of Genk’s games this season, and has represented Belgium at youth level
According to the BBC, the deal materialised as a result of work from Liverpool’s global talent department, which is led by Matt Newberry. Through the same platform, Liverpool have signed teenage centre-backs, Senegal’s Mor Talla N’diaye and Ifeanyi Ndukwe of Austria.
Both players impressed at the Under-17 World Cup in Qatar. Midfielder Samuel Martinez and goalkeeper Armin Pecsi also joined from Colombia and Hungary in that order. Pecsi is spending this season on loan at TSV Hartberg in Germany.
At the moment, Liverpool have Alisson, Giorgi Mamardashvili, Freddie Woodman and Vitezslav Jaros as their goalkeeping options, but with Alisson’s contract expiring next summer and Mamardashvili’s future looking uncertain, Brughmans will be an option from the summer of 2027 onwards.
Liverpool won the Premier League in the 2019-20 season under Arne Slot who left his role as on May 30, 2026, after being sacked following a fifth-place Premier League finish.
Under new manager Andoni Iraola, the Reds are aiming to rebuild and compete again, though they have started the new Premier League season very slowly with two 2-2 draws against Newcastle and Nottingham Forest, where the Spanish tactician ripped into fourth official Tim Robinson over a substitution row.
