Portugal boss Jorge Jesus says Cristiano Ronaldo will be welcomed back to the team if he chooses to resume his international career.
Ronaldo left the Portugal camp after his bench role against Norway on September 27 in the Nations League.
Ronaldo, promised to tell the truth someday in a feud that could have ended the international career of the Al Nassr striker, who has scored an incredible 146 goals in 234 caps for Portugal.
However, on Monday, in an interview with reporters after the 2-1 victory over Norway, Jesus said: “If he wants to, he’ll return to the national team.
“We can talk before the next call-up, but Cris is the one who’s going to decide.
“In my first call-up, I said, ‘I need you, I need you to be close to me, playing or not playing, I need you.’ And now I’m saying the same thing.”
Ronaldo played the first match in their home ground against Wales in the Nations League, but Ronaldo became a bench warmer for Jesus by not playing him despite the 41-year-old’s age during the Portugal team’s game in Oslo.
Jesus tried a few days after to deny any rifts within the team after the surprise visit of Pedro Proenca, president of the Portuguese Football Federation.
Nevertheless, Ronaldo issued a statement via Instagram that he has withdrawn from the Portugal national team.
“After the press conference of the national team, and following a conversation with the president of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have made the decision to leave the national team training camp,” Ronaldo posted on Instagram.
“In due course, I will tell all the Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led me to leave the national team, to which I always dedicated myself.
“Now is the time to wish Portugal and all my teammates good luck, without exception.”
Portugal fight back to win 4-2 in Denmark, followed by a victory at home against Norway, saw Jesus’ team top Group Four with 12 points from 12 games.
