Spurs Pelicans

Victor Wembanyama is heading back to France. The San Antonio Spurs, led by their Defensive Player of the Year, are set for a pair of regular‑season games in Europe next season against the New Orleans Pelicans. Yankee Scores reports.

The unanimous Defensive player of the Year, Victor Wembanyama will lead the Spurs to face the New Orleans Pelicans in Paris on January 14, before traveling to Manchester, England, for a second clash on January 17.

For Wembanyama, the Paris game is more than just another fixture  it’s a homecoming. Tickets for his last Paris appearance in 2025 sold out instantly, and anticipation is already building for this return.

Spurs coach Mitch Johnson could not hide his excitement, “Always looking forward to expanding the game and being part of the cool process of being able to play outside the country.”

This announcement comes as the NBA and FIBA continue to explore a new European league, potentially launching in 2027. Paris and Manchester are among the cities expected to host teams, underscoring the league’s commitment to expanding basketball’s reach.

NBA managing director George Aivazoglou added: “Playing games in Paris and Manchester reflects the strong momentum we’re seeing for basketball and the NBA in France, the U.K. and across Europe.”

Wembanyama’s Global Appeal

Since being drafted No. 1 in 2023, Wembanyama has become the face of the Spurs and a global ambassador for the game. The franchise has invested heavily in France, hosting “Spurs Week Paris” with youth clinics, court renovations, and fan events. This trip will include similar programs, ensuring the games are more than just basketball, they’re cultural celebrations.
