The Toronto Raptors will retire Kyle Lowry’s No. 7, and Lowry will be joining Vince Carter as the only two players to see their numbers enshrined at Scotiabank Arena, in franchise history.

On Thursday, the Raptors revealed they were retiring Lowry’s number after their Jan. 10 contest against the Philadelphia 76ers, Lowry’s hometown team and the one he suited up for over the last two-plus years of his career, per ESPN.

Historical Honor

Lowry, now 40, signed a one-day contract with the Raptors on July 7 — Lowry’s birthday and his jersey number, coincidentally — announcing his retirement after his 20 years in the league.

“I’ve been looking forward to this moment for years. I always said that Toronto is home, and that I’d retire a Raptor, and to see my No. 7 go up in that building is going to mean everything to me,” Lowry said in a statement Thursday.

“We built something special here — my teammates, the organization, the city and the fans, and all of Canada. We became champions together, and to be able to share this night with all of them, and with my family, is going to mean a lot to me.”

The Legacy of No. 7

Lowry was a six-time All-Star over his nine years with the Raptors and helped bring the only NBA title to Toronto in 2018-19 season.

Apart from playing for the Raptors and 76ers, Lowry has also played for Memphis Grizzlies, Houston Rockets and Miami Heat. The number one jersey of Lowry was retired by Villanova in February 2020.

Lowry on an average gave 13.8 points, 4.2 rebounds and 6.0 assists in 1,187 regular season NBA games, and the total 2,209 three point scores by him is ranked 14th in NBA history. Lowry played in playoffs 12 times with an average of 13.3 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.3 assists in the playoffs.

Carter’s No. 15 jersey was retired by the Raptors in November 2024.
