Jonathan David has joined the exclusive list of players with World Cup hat-tricks, following his five-star performance in Canada’s 6-0 victory over Qatar at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The 26-year-old proved too strong for the opposition as Canada recorded their first-ever victory at the global spectacle, having opened their account with a 1-1 draw against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
It was a totally different game against the Maroons in Vancouver, with Cyle Larin opening the scoring in the 16th minute, tucking home a rebound.
David powered home a right-footed volley in the 29th minute to make it 2-0 in the 29th minute, before scrambling in a third on the stroke of half-time.

Mexico through to next round
Yankee Scores earlier reported that co-hosts Mexico are the first team to progress to the Knockout phase of the 2026 World Cup following their lone goal victory over South Korea in Guadalajara.
Luis Romo of Mexico was perfectly positioned to take advantage of the empty net when goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu slipped on the ball after a challenge from his team-mate Lee Gi-hyuk in the 50th minute of the game.
