Mike Trout has suffered another injury setback. The Los Angeles Angels put star center fielder Mike Trout on the 10-day injured list with a right hamstring strain, Yankee Scores reports.
Trout said the injury happened while he was running to first base in the eighth inning of Wednesday’s 8-1 loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks. At first he thought it was just a cramp but the MRI revealed the strain.
But the 34-year-old sounded optimistic about a speedy return from the setback. “Last night to today is a night and day difference so that’s positive for me,” Trout said. “Last night I was a little bit worried about it but I rested on the plane and it felt a lot better.”

According to MLB.com, Manager Kurt Suzuki said it was a fluke play, not an overuse issue, pushing back on any notion that Trout should not have been running hard in a blowout. “How do you tell a guy that he can’t play hard? Mike’s like that… he plays hard. “He leads by example for everybody,” Suzuki said.
The timing hurts as Trout had miraculously remained healthy for most of the season, playing in 74 of the Angels’ first 75 games and on pace for his first All-Star appearance since 2023. He’s hitting .234 with a .866 OPS, 17 home runs, 36 RBIs and seven steals and entered Thursday leading the AL with 54 runs scored.
It’s the latest injury in a long line of ailments Trout has suffered this decade — including a calf strain, back issue, hamate fracture and a torn meniscus in recent years.
To fill the roster spot, the Angels recalled infielder Christian Moore from Triple-A Salt Lake, where he’s been hot and seeing time in left field in addition to the infield.
Trout does not have a return date yet but is hopeful for a short IL stint.
