Kylian Mbappe is now all-time leading scorer at the World Cup after scoring a brace in France’s third-place playoff against England, extending his record to 22 goals and putting him ahead of Lionel Messi.
The France captain scored in the 48th minute to match Messi’s tally of 21 before netting a second in the 66th minute to complete his brace and take the record outright.

It capped a fantastic individual tournament for Mbappe, who now also holds the record for most goals scored in a single World Cup edition with 10, having played what was his last match of this tournament.
The match was a wild affair with England winning 6-4 in Miami to take third place after a poor start by France.
Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele were also on the scoresheet for Les Bleus, while Bukayo Saka grabbed a hat-trick for England.
According to Al Jazeera, Jude Bellingham became his country’s all-time leading scorer at the tournament thanks to his seventh goal.
The all-time World Cup scoring rankings now read: Kylian Mbappe 22, Lionel Messi 21, Miroslav Klose 16, Brazil’s Ronaldo 15, Germany’s Gerd Muller 14 and France legend, Just Fontaine 13.
Messi will get one more chance to retake top rank when Argentina meet Spain in Sunday’s final but to do so he’d have to score at least twice to stand on top again.
