Moses Itauma’s fight against Filip Hrgovic on 29th August is for the IBF vacant belt, Yankee Scores reports.
The 21-year-old British boxer has been tipped to be the next big thing in heavyweight boxing with 12 knockout wins out of his 14 professional wins.
Frank Warren, the promoter, revealed that the IBF belt, which was vacated by Oleksandr Usyk in June, will be up for grabs in the O2 Arena, London, per BBC Sport.
“A lot of people have high expectations of him as I have, by the way,” Queensberry Promotions’ Warren told BBC Sport.
“We signed him when he was 16. He was an amateur. We sponsored him and he turned professional with us. And he’s been amazing and sort of taken the world by storm.
“This is a big moment for him. But I’m confident he can do it.”
The fight between Itauma and Sanchez had already been fixed as a result of negotiations that were supposed to be done by 29 July with Cuban Frank Sanchez.
But now that Sanchez is ready to give up, he will instead face the winner of the match between Itauma and Hrgovic.
“We paid [Sanchez] some money. We said whoever wins the fight, you’re not losing out and you’ll get the opportunity to fight for the title against the winner,” Warren added.
Itauma won in a fifth-round knockout of American Jermaine Franklin in Manchester in March and knocked out Briton Dillian Whyte in one round in August 2025.
Hrgovic, an Olympic bronze medallist in 2016, has won in 20 professional matches. The 34-year-old knocked out Briton Dave Allen in the third round in May.
“We know Hrgovic is going to come and give 100%, and 100% of him is hard work for anyone,” Warren said.
