Manchester City have turned down an initial bid of £38.5m from Barcelona for their midfielder Rodri.
The English club is interested in letting him go but would ask for more than £60m.
Rodri will turn 30 this year and his contract expires after next season with not much progress on a new deal being finalized amid reports he might leave.
It seemed like Real Madrid were his main suitor, but the situation changed after sources revealed to BBC Sport that Barca have received his approval to discuss transfer terms with Manchester City.
The bid was put forward on Friday.
According to Barca sources, initially they did not guarantee to make a move, but it seems that the situation is getting somewhere now.
The club confirmed they are having ongoing talks with the representatives of the player and made their bid on Friday.
Real Madrid Exit & Personal Terms
In the meantime, sources claim the discussions with Real have been terminated.
Rodri has been unavailable for most of last season because of the injury to his knee.
With the second week of August coming, the English side hopes to sort Rodri’s future soon to be able to get a replacement.
Discussions are ongoing on signing 18-year-old midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi of Morocco from Lille but the asking price of £86m seems to be too much for the French side.
