With Kylian Mbappé in a locker room war and the club finishing trophy-less, Florentino Pérez is bringing in the ultimate disciplinarian Jose Mourinho; Yankee Scores reports…
Jose Mourinho has reached an agreement to return to Real Madrid as the club’s coach for a two-year period.
The return of the “Special One”
Real Madrid have made up their mind to hire Mourinho again, after thirteen years since his first spell at the club, in order to put their dressing room right following a season marked by unrest and failure to win any trophies.
An announcement regarding Mourinho’s appointment is expected after Real Madrid’s last game of the season against Athletic Club on Sunday. The coach, who has been offered a deal with an additional year of work, is expected to present himself in Madrid next week.
Alvaro Arbeloa has been managing Real Madrid on an interim basis since Xabi Alonso was sacked in January, seven months into the job. Mourinho will be hoping to succeed where his two former teammates have failed.
Unbeaten Benfica Stint
Mourinho finished the season with Benfica on Saturday when he beat Estoril 3-1 and secured the third place in Liga Portugal playing undefeated in the league.
There was a clause in Mourinho’s two-year Benfica contract, signed only eight months ago, allowing him to leave for £2.6m. It is understood that Mourinho will be bringing four members of the coaching staff from Benfica to Madrid.
Mourinho-Perez Connection
Mourinho has maintained a close relationship with Real Madrid president Florentino Perez during his previous stay at the club.
The negotiation process on Mourinho’s deal was managed by Jorge Mendes, Mourinho’s agent.
