Six-time NBA All-Star DeMar DeRozan has agreed to terms to sign a one-year, $3.9 million contract with the Denver Nuggets

The move ends a free agency search that dragged on for weeks and reportedly involved talks with the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and New Orleans Pelicans.
The Search For A Challenger
The Sacramento Kings let DeRozan walk on July 6 when trade talks between both sides stalled.
DeRozan turned 37 earlier this month after spending two seasons in Sacramento after stints in Toronto, San Antonio and Chicago. He is also currently 16th on the NBA’s all-time scoring list.
According to Chris Haynes of NBA, Nikola Jokic, Aaron Gordon and Jamal Murray all helped recruit DeRozan to Denver.
The Nuggets grew more interested after trading Peyton Watson to Cleveland, which created a need for another playmaker to go along with Jokic and Murray.
The Figures
The deal is for the veteran minimum with DeRozan being paid $3.88 million with a $2.45 million cap hit for Denver. Miami has also agreed on a deal with Klay Thompson after he’s waived his buyout with Dallas.
DeRozan averaged 18.4 points, 2.9 rebounds and 4.1 assists last season for the Kings, while shooting 49.7 percent from the field, continuing a stretch of availability that has seen him play in at least 70 games in each of the last five seasons.
Last season, Denver went 54-28 and will look to DeRozan for scoring depth as it chases another deep playoff run.
