A Michael Jordan game-worn jersey from the 1998 Finals, his “Last Dance” season, has fetched an unprecedented price tag of $12.3 million (£9.3m) in Jordan memorabilia.
The game-worn jersey was worn in the third game of the 1998 NBA Finals in his final year playing with the Chicago Bulls.
Jordan led the Bulls to a 4-2 series victory to claim his sixth and final NBA Championship. Jordan earned the Finals’ MVP title in all six titles.
A prior record for Jordan memorabilia had been set by his jersey in the first game of the 1998 Finals that fetched $10.1 million (£7.6m).
The jersey, offered for sale by businessman Ryan Gough, sold on Joopiter, Pharrell Williams’ digital auction house, which had priced the jersey at $10-15m (£7.5-£11.3m), per BBC Sport.
Michael Jordan’s 1997 Ferrari 550 Maranello fetched a price of $2.7m (£2m), four times the auction record for that car.
“Few objects in the history of sport embody greatness as completely as Michael Jordan’s game three jersey from the 1998 NBA Finals,” Joopiter said in the auction posting.
“Worn during the Last Dance… it marks the culmination of an era that transformed basketball into a global cultural phenomenon.

“Today it stands among the most important game-worn sports artifacts ever to come to market.”
The most expensive game-used sports memorabilia ever sold is the baseball shirt that was worn by the baseball great Babe Ruth when he called the shot in the 1932 World Series at a cost of $24.1m (£18.2m).
