Golden State’s season may be over, but the bigger question is whether Steve Kerr will return to the sidelines next year… Yankee Scores reports.
Kerr Reflects After Play-In Exit
Following the Warriors’ 111-96 loss to Phoenix in the play-in tournament, Kerr admitted he is contemplating his future. “It might still go on. It may not,” he said, acknowledging that coaching jobs eventually reach an expiration date.
The 60-year-old coach shared emotional embraces with Stephen Curry and Draymond Green, appearing to mouth “thank you” in the final moments. When asked what he said, Kerr smiled: “None of your business.”

Curry and Green Want Him Back
Both Curry and Green voiced their desire for Kerr to continue. Curry explained: “I want Coach to be happy. I want him to be excited about the job… He knows how I feel about him. That shouldn’t even need to be said.”
Green added: “I just don’t deal with change well. I don’t love it. So, I don’t want to think about that. I hope that’s not the case.”
Kerr’s Legacy in Golden State
Kerr has coached the Warriors for 12 seasons, compiling a 604-353 record and guiding them to six NBA Finals appearances, winning four championships. He also led Team USA to Olympic gold in Paris in 2024.
Despite injuries and adversity, Kerr praised his team’s fight this season: “This was as tough a season as you can have… And I’m proud of the group for finishing the season the right way.”
What Comes Next
Kerr said he will meet with owner Joe Lacob and GM Mike Dunleavy in the coming weeks to decide the future. “We will come to a collaborative decision on what’s next. I still love coaching. But I get it. These jobs all have an expiration date.”
Whether Kerr stays or steps away, his impact on Golden State, and his partnership with Curry has already cemented him as one of the NBA’s most successful coaches.
