With Games 3 and 4 locked for MSG on June 8th and 10th, NYC is about to be the center of the sports world, Yankee Scores reports…

President Donald Trump is preparing to be present for an NBA Finals match at Madison Square Garden next month,

Speaking at a Cabinet meeting, Trump stated that he was personally invited to the match by Knicks’ owner, James Dolan.

“I think I’ll be going to one of the games,” Trump said. “I was invited by numerous people, and [Dolan], and I think I’ll be going.”

A Historic Presidential First

Should he attend, Trump will go down in history as the first U.S. president ever to watch an NBA Finals match.

Over the past few years, Trump has been seen at such high-profile sporting events as Super Bowl LIX, held last year in New Orleans, and the College Football Playoff National Championship earlier this year in Miami.

Knicks’ Records

The Knicks booked a place in the NBA Finals on Monday after defeating the Cleveland Cavaliers 4-0 in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference finals. Trump mentioned that initially he wanted to be at the final game of Knicks’ versus Cavaliers, but New York wrapped up the series in four games.

The Knicks are on an 11-game win streak, scoring 262 more points than their opponents in that span.

Just three teams previously had at least an 11-game win streak in the post-season before entering the NBA Finals: the Lakers in 1989 and 2001 and the Warriors in 2017.

“I was going to go on Wednesday,” Trump said. “But [the Knicks] closed it out very quickly. … Boy what a team, they won all their games. They have some great players.”

The Bright Lights of June

It marks the first time since 1999 that the Knicks have appeared in the NBA Finals. New York Knicks will face either the Oklahoma City Thunder or the San Antonio Spurs.

“It’s great to see it,” Trump said. “The Knicks have really suffered for years.”

The NBA Finals will be tipped off on June 3 in Oklahoma City/San Antonio. Game 2 will be played the two days later in the same location. Games 3 and 4 will be played at MSG on June 8 and 10, respectively.
