The 2026 WNBA playoff picture just got three teams smaller. And the latest to fall is the Toronto Tempo

Toronto Out
The Toronto Tempo was the last team eliminated from postseason contention, falling to the Washington Mystics 93-82.
The expansion side was already down four starters with lower-body injuries, and the loss pushed the Leafs’ losing streak to 12 games.
It’s a tough way to finish a first season, but not one that erases the bigger picture: an expansion franchise finding its footing in a league that doesn’t slow down for anyone.
Seattle and Connecticut Already Out
Seattle was the first to go, falling on August 7 when Washington beat Atlanta. The Storm are missing the postseason for the first time in three years, but there is a bright player in Dominique Malonga, who is averaging nearly 17 points and almost 9 rebounds a night in her second season.
Connecticut followed suit a little over a week later, losing to New York to seal its fate of elimination. It’s a strange note on which to end for the Sun, who are packing up for good.
The franchise is moving to Houston once the season ends, bringing an end to 24 years in Connecticut.
Who is Still Fighting
Technically , everyone else has a pulse even if some are faint. Portland is six games behind with ten to go. They’re not out, but running out of runway quickly.
Minnesota and Las Vegas have already clinched spots and the rest of the field will keep rolling until the math finally runs out.
The battle takes a hiatus in early September for a two-week break linked to the FIBA World Cup, and then the league has about a week left to sort out who is in and who isn’t
