Former Napoli boss Antonio Conte has joined the fray for the Manchester United job.
Conte threw himself into the mix when he said he would want his next project to be one that “lost sight of its history.”
“There are many clubs that have somewhat lost sight of their history,” the Italian told The Athletic. ”I’d like to go to one of these clubs to dust off that history and make it shine once more.”
The Italian is reportedly interested despite releasing a statement on social media last week dismissing himself from the job.
Michael Carrick is under fire, particularly after another scandalous defeat to Bournemouth.
Manchester United are just two places above the relegation zone. In eight league matches so far, the Red Devils have only managed one win, four draws, and three losses.
It is uncertain if Michael Carrick will be in the dugout for their next league fixture against Chelsea.
“Conte, who previously managed Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur, has allegedly made it clear he’s interested in taking over at Old Trafford,” writes the Express.
“According to sources, intermediaries have approached the Red Devils leadership about replacing Carrick with Conte, who is prepared to accept the position.”
The article continues: “United would have to stump up a compensation fee to lure Hurzeler away from Brighton, who is in an entirely different situation compared to 12 months ago, when some of the Brighton support were calling for his dismissal.
“Nagelsmann has also been mentioned as a possible successor in the hotseat, having established his reputation in Germany before accepting the national team position, a role he stepped down from during the summer.”
