Chalobah Replaces Injured Livramento in England Squad

Trevor Chalobah

Newcastle United full-back Tino Livramento has been dropped from the Three Lions squad due to the injury and has been replaced by Trevoh Chalobah, 26, with just one cap, Yankee Scores reports.

Livramento suffered from a calf strain during the England training session on Sunday ahead of their World Cup opener against Croatia on Wednesday, per BBC.

Chalobah will not link up with the rest of the squad until after the Croatia game.

While the rest of the England squad will leave for Dallas where they will play Croatia, Chalobah will head straight to the team’s training camp in Kansas City.

An outfield player who suffers from either a serious injury or illness can be substituted in the World Cup squad up to 24 hours before the start of the first game in the tournament.

Livramento received his maiden call-up under manager Gareth Southgate in November 2024. He has made five appearances so far under Tuchel including two starts.

He came into the game at half time when England defeated New Zealand 1-0 in their warm-up fixture but did not feature against Costa Rica.

The Right-Back Conundrum Facing Tuchel

Reece James remains Tuchel’s choice for the right-back position; however, questions arise regarding the condition of the Chelsea star as the 26-year-old had to miss nine matches due to a hamstring problem.

Djed Spence (six appearances), a versatile defender who is able to play on both flanks, and Ezri Konsa (eleven appearances including nine starts) remain available for selection, having been already called up for the tournament.

Chalobah, 26, has not represented his country since June 2025 when he featured in the entire match against Senegal. Although he did not participate in the match itself, he did sit on the substitutes’ bench for many World Cup qualifiers under Tuchel.

Konsa, 26, whose position is central defender, has already made eleven appearances under Tuchel.
