Mauricio Pochettino has signed a new deal to remain manager of the U.S. men’s national team with the contract expected to stretch through the 2030 World Cup.

Pochettino was originally appointed in September 2024 after Gregg Berhalter was sacked after a poor Copa America exit.

In just under two years in charge, he led the U.S. through a difficult but ultimately successful qualifying campaign for the 2026 World Cup and the tournament itself, guiding the team to the round of 16 on home soil where they lost 4-1 to Belgium.

Talks on an extension have been going on for weeks. U.S. Soccer Federation president Cindy Parlow Cone indicated late last month that talks were “going well,” previewing an announcement that came just days later.

The coaching crew will stay in place under the new arrangement, which includes longtime assistants Jesus Perez, Miguel D’Agostino and Toni Jimenez, as well as more recent arrivals Sebastian Pochettino and Sylvia Tuyà.

“Mauricio and his staff share our vision for the future of soccer in the United States and our new project allows us to build on the progress of the USMNT and the momentum of U.S. Soccer,” said U.S. Soccer CEO and Secretary General JT Batson in a statement, according to ESPN
