Manchester United have called off their pursuit of Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson for understated reasons, Yankee Scores reports.
The England midfielder had become one of Manchester United’s primary transfer targets before the start of the transfer window as they were looking for midfield reinforcements.
However, doubts over the valuation of Elliot Anderson have led the Manchester United hierarchy to rethink their pursuit of the player who is 23 years old.
Preference for Man City?
Sources say Manchester City have already made an offer of more than £120 million in total, taking into account all the performance-based bonuses included.
The value of Anderson in the market is estimated to be somewhere between £80m and £90m and sources are saying that United are wary of entering into a bidding battle with City.
Moreover, there are worries that Anderson has made it clear that if he leaves Nottingham Forest this summer, he would rather join Manchester City and play at the Etihad stadium.
United are still searching for one more midfielder.
Braziilian Ederson has joined from Atalanta and there’s interest in Mateus Fernandes, Alex Scott, and Sandro Tonali.
However, sources are saying that United don’t know whether Barcelona are planning on exercising their €30m clause in order to make Marcus Rashford’s loan permanent or not.
The Spanish club has until June 15 to decide whether they want to activate their option for Rashford, who has until 2028 before his deal at Manchester United expires.
Barca Undecided About Rashford
If Rashford can’t get out of his deal with United, he would come back after the World Cup to start preseason training with the squad.
According to sources speaking with ESPN, Carrick and Wilcox would decide on the future of the Englishman in case he needs to come back.
In fact, Rashford was told last summer by Amorim to train separately from the squad.
It must be mentioned here that Carrick, once the teammate of Rashford and now a coaching partner of him, has taken charge after being Amorim’s assistant under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
