The defensive end for the Los Angeles Rams Myles Garrett requires a knee surgery that will keep him out of action for four weeks.
Garrett, who is currently the defensive player of the year, signed with the Los Angeles Rams in the summer after leaving the Cleveland Browns in one of the biggest trades in NFL history.
The 30-year-old played in his first match for the Rams during their season opener against the San Francisco 49ers, where they lost 27-7 to the Super Bowl favorite in Australia.
The two-time defensive player of the year missed most of his training due to a knee injury but after the match it was known he required a simple surgery.
The Rams have put Garrett on the injured reserve (IR) list, meaning he cannot play for at least four weeks, per BBC Sport.
“I don’t really [have a timeline] yet,” said Rams head coach Sean McVay.
“It’s all contingent upon [surgery]. You feel good about it. But I think it’d be unfair to him, without having the totality of all the information, to put any sort of timeline on it.
“We know that he’ll be available in four weeks potentially, so we’ll just take that a day at a time.”
The defense of the Rams is also getting a boost with Aaron Donald, who is three-time defensive player of the year, ending his retirement period.
However, the 35-year-old didn’t travel to Australia and according to coach McVay, the Rams are yet to decide whether he will feature in the upcoming game against the New York Giants.
Last season, Garrett achieved the NFL single-season record with 23 sacks, but against the 49ers, he couldn’t manage to make any tackles for the first time in his career.
