The world number one Aryna Sabalenka had her French Open dream dashed after her quarterfinal loss to Russian player Diana Shnaider, Yankee Scores reports…
A Total Collapse
The reigning Australian Open champion started strong at 6-3 4-1 up but saw everything turn against her as Shnaider mounted a stunning comeback in their quarterfinal clash.
This is the second consecutive year that the Belarusian has seen her hopes of lifting the trophy vanished after losing to the eventual champion.
In the end, Shnaider came through, defeating Sabalenka 3-6 7-5 6-0 in her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal.

Sabalenka had been the lone Grand Slam champion in the competition and many viewed her as the clear favorite to lift the trophy.
Now it will be down to eighth-seeded Mirra Andreeva to carry Russian hopes for victory as Shnaider’s triumph means she is the best player still alive in the competition.
Unfriendly Wind Frustrates Sabalenka
Wind blowing across Court Philippe Chatrier disrupted Sabalenka’s game and she ended up committing an astonishing 57 unforced errors.
Clearly frustrated with her own performance, Sabalenka could be heard yelling in frustration after every shot as she threw her hands into the air and yelled at her support crew.
This mirrors her display at the same stage last year where she committed 70 unforced errors.
“Honestly I am speechless,” Shnaider said in her post-match interview.
“She is the world number one, so I was just trying to do my best. I had to fight for every point.”
The Semifinal No One Saw Coming
Shnaider will face qualifier Maja Chwalinska in a semi-final no one saw coming.
Chwalinska beat Anna Kalinskaya earlier today.
