Manchester United have chosen to stick with Michael Carrick for the time being following a poor run of results.
Carrick’s managerial career at United was thought to have ended after a 3-0 loss to Bournemouth last weekend, but the United hierarchy will still hold on, hoping he will turn things around.
There is speculation that Carrick has lost the dressing room following scathing criticism from Fernandes, who questioned his tactics against Como.
The Red Devils are yet to secure a win in eight games, and the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Eddie Howe, and Antonio Conte have been linked to the job.
The Athletic reported that the club’s hierarchy have thrown their weight behind Michael Carrick, but there are concerns that the backing is dependent on his ability to turn things around.
The former United midfielder was on hand to watch the Under-21s on Monday and returned to training today.
Man United are 16th in the Premier League with just seven points from eight matches, and their only win of the campaign so far came against newly promoted Ipswich.
They were also thrashed 4-1 by Como in the Champions League. Afterwards, captain Bruno Fernandes criticised the team’s tactical approach. He was then dropped for the Bournemouth game, which looks like a consequence of his comments, although Carrick said the decision was down to “pure football” reasons.
