Ghana football community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Dominic Frimpong, Yankee Scores reports.
Dominic Frimpong died after unknown gunmen fired shots at the bus transporting the team following a soccer match.
Frimpong suffered gunshot injuries before he succumbed to his injuries in the hospital, as the hunt for the bandits intensified.
Reacting to the tragic death, the Ghana Football Association (GFA) expressed great shock and sadness. They described the 20-year-old as an emerging talent who had a lot of dedication to the sport.
GFA Statement
“Masked men wielding guns and rifles” ambushed the bus and “blocked the road” as the team returned home on Sunday. The club said.
The team coming back from a Premier League game against Samartex in Samreboi – which they lost 1-0.
“[The men] started shooting at our bus as the driver tried to reverse,” Berekum Chelsea said. “The players and staff fled into nearby bushes to take cover.”
In addition to this, the police stated that a total of 30 passengers in the bus were involved in the ambush perpetrated by six-armed bandits.
