From Europe to the abyss? Roberto De Zerbi’s former side may have just hammered the final nail in Tottenham’s Premier League coffin. A 95th-minute heartbreaker leaves Spurs staring at their first relegation since 1977. Is there any way back? Yankee Scores reports……

Brighton has worsened Tottenham’s relegation battle by scoring a 95th-minute equalizer through Georginio Rutter to deny their former coach his first win.

Rutter’s goal stretched Spurs to 15 games without a win.

Match Summary

Spurs were on course to move out of the bottom three with Xavi Simons curling in with 13 minutes left on the clock.

Second-half substitute Rutter slammed home the ball to level with five minutes of the eight added for stoppage time. The goal silenced the home support and increased the club’s fears of tasting relegation for the first time from the Premier League since 1977.

It is now a reality check for the fans and club. Their Premier League survival is now precarious.

The Relegation Landscape

Spurs remain 18th on the log while other relegation battlers—Nottingham Forest and West Ham—are yet to play after Leeds United thrashed relegation-bound Wolves by 3-0. Spurs’ situation could be more precarious if Nottingham Forest and West Ham United secure wins against Burnley and Crystal Palace, respectively.

 Wolves – Away
Aston Villa – Away
Leeds – Home
Chelsea – Away
Everton – Home

The next five games for Spurs are challenging, as they will play their next two league matches away from home. Specifically, Spurs will have three away games, along with home matches against the significantly improved Leeds United and Everton.

They started the season with so much hope with Thomas Frank, then moved on with Igor Tudor, who failed to secure a league win. Roberto De Zerbi is having his second spell in the league with Spurs. While De Zerbi’s former side, Brighton, is optimistic about securing a spot in continental football, his new side, Spurs, could potentially find themselves competing in the Championship next season.
