As Tottenham’s survival hopes continue to diminish, Yankee Scores examines the devastating loss of captain Cristian Romero to season-ending injury.
Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero is set to miss the remainder of the season. It was due to the knee injury sustained during the team’s 1-0 defeat to Sunderland.
Romero was upset when leaving the pitch after clashing with goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky at the Stadium of Light on Sunday.
There were worries that the injury might keep Romero out of action for the next six matches. This period would actually be crucial for Tottenham’s survival from relegation.
The Medical Reality at Tottenham
Upon conducting various tests, it has been confirmed that Romero is likely to be out of action for between six to eight weeks due to suffering a high-grade partial tear of the medial cruciate ligament in the knee.
It remains to be seen whether Romero will be considered for inclusion in Argentina’s squad for the summer World Cup.
According to De Zerbi, Romero is an “excellent footballer with great character” who is “indispensable for Spurs.”
Injury Woes at Tottenham
It is another injury issue for new Spurs boss Roberto De Zerbi, who told reporters on Friday he had expected to rely on Mohammed Kudus only for the forward to suffer a fresh quad injury.
Now he will have to do without Romero for the run-in, whom he had labelled a “crucial player” after the defeat at the Stadium of Light.
When asked about Romero’s injury on Sunday, he said: “I hope for us it’s not too important a problem because he’s a crucial player for us
Six Games to Save Spurs
Currently, Tottenham sits in 18th place, two points behind West Ham United, who occupy the relegation zone.
