Amazon boss Jeff Bezos has been sounded out over his involvement in a group of buyers who are in negotiations to take a stake in Liverpool, Yankee Scores reports.
Sky News reported that Bezos is said to have been approached over whether he would join a syndicate including former Queens Park Rangers owner Amit Bhatia, who is the son-in-law of steel magnate and billionaire Lakshmi Mittal.
The source added that he could not say with certainty whether Bezos will make the investment in Liverpool FC.
The man behind Amazon, Blue Origin, and Washington Post has a fortune of approximately $257bn according to Forbes, putting him on par with the world’s fourth richest person.
According to reports, he had been interested in bidding for this year’s Super Bowl winner Seattle Seahawks as well as NFL franchise Washington Commanders, but decided against doing so in the end.
If Bezos does decide to invest in Liverpool, it will come as a shocker, taking into account the seemingly endless flow of American money into English football’s elite division.
Of the current 20 teams playing in the top flight of English football, half of them are owned by predominantly US owners, except Crystal Palace, which is currently looking for new owners.
