Kansas City’s franchise quarterback is inching closer to a return. Patrick Mahomes is on track to participate in the Chiefs’ first offseason practices later this month. Yankee Scores reports.
Rehab Progress on Schedule
Coach Andy Reid confirmed Saturday that Mahomes continues to progress well after undergoing surgery in December to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his left knee.
The Chiefs’ first set of OTAs is scheduled for May 26‑28, and Reid believes Mahomes will be ready to take part.
“He is in a good position to be able to do some things,” Reid said. “If he can do some things, he’ll do it.”
Putting in the Work
Mahomes has spent most days inside the Chiefs’ training facility, working closely with athletic trainer Julie Frymyer, who has guided him through previous recoveries. In late March, Mahomes posted a short Instagram clip showing him throwing again, a five‑step dropback followed by an intermediate pass — a sign of steady progress.

Eyes on Phase 3
Reid noted that Phase 2 of the offseason program involves no contact or offense versus defense, while Phase 3 ramps up intensity. “He’s in a position where he can do everything, I think,” Reid added, signaling optimism about Mahomes’ readiness.
Looking Ahead
The Chiefs will continue to monitor Mahomes’ workload, but his presence at OTAs would mark a significant step in his recovery. For Kansas City, having their leader back on the field — even in a limited role — is a promising sign as they prepare for another run at the top of the AFC.
