With a new offensive coordinator and fresh weapons in the huddle, is this the move that finally turns the Jets around? Yankee Scores breaks down the numbers behind the deal.
New York Jets running back Breece Hall agreed on Friday to a three-year, $43.5 million deal that could be worth as high as $45.75 million. Hall received the franchise tag on March 3.
Breaking Down the Contract
It includes guarantees worth $29 million, agent Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports said. Hall averages $14.5 million per year, the fourth-highest for the position, just above Kenneth Walker III ($14.35 million), behind Saquon Barkley ($20.6 million), Christian McCaffrey ($19 million), and Derrick Henry ($15 million). It surpasses the Super Bowl MVP, who signed with Kansas City Chiefs in March.
The franchise tag was set at $14.3 million for Hall, and had negotiations fallen through before July 15, he would’ve been playing the 2026 season under a one-year deal worth $14.3 million.
From Trade Bait to Franchise Pillar
This is rather surprising, considering Hall was a part of trade rumors earlier in the season. In November, the Jets traded stars such as Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams. It was widely predicted that Hall would’ve joined the group of players who got traded on the same day.
Instead, Jets opted to stick with Hall, whom they see as a core piece of their rebuilding project. The talks stalled out early in March while the team focused on the draft.
General Manager Joe Douglas expected to resume negotiations with agent Lynn once the draft was over. He believed they had reached a good point when they stopped negotiating.
The Dual-Threat Engine
Hall, 25, rushed for a career-high 1,065 yards on offense last season amid a team-record of 3-14. Hall’s coaches praised his ability as a dual-threat player who could improve the passing game, even though the numbers did not confirm it with only 36 catches — his second-lowest season total in four years. There might be some improvement next season with offensive coordinator Frank Reich’s arrival.
Hall has rushed for a total of 5,040 scrimmage yards in four seasons, putting him at 14th best in the league.
