Dolphins, De'Von Achane agree 4-year extension

De’von Achane is stuck in Miami with a new jaw-dropping deal; Yankee Scores has the financial breakdown!

The Miami Dolphins and running back De’Von Achane will seal a four-year contract extension valued at $64 million.

Breaking Down the Mega-Deal

The bumper contract will see Achane play for the Dolphins until the 2030 season, according to ESPN.

With $32 million already guaranteed and an average annual salary of $16 million, the contract makes Achane the third-highest paid running back in the NFL. The contract can reach up to $68 million depending on performance-based incentives.

The “Pillar” of the New-Look Dolphins

This contract extension marks the beginning of an important move by the team’s new general manager, Jon-Eric Sullivan, who referred to Achane as “a pillar of our future.”

“He’s dynamic. I mean, there’s plays that you’re not even blocked right for and he gets 6 or 7 yards,” Dolphins coach Jeff Hafley said in March. “His vision, his acceleration, the way he can catch the ball out of the backfield, he’s so hard to defend. I’m glad [Sullivan] said that.”

A Historic Start to a Career

The 2025 season was an impressive one for Achane since he scored a career-high total of 1,350 rushing yards and earned his first trip to the Pro Bowl.

According to Sullivan, the running back wasn’t for sale even before the draft, pointing out that the club will try to get an extension from him quickly.

Speaking at the media conference ahead of his arrival in Miami, Hafley highlighted that they plan to run the ball efficiently in 2026. This was proven by the first-round selection of Alabama tackle Kadyn Proctor who has expressed his excitement to block for Achane.

“It’s going to feel so good, man,” Proctor said. “Knowing that you’re blocking for a guy that makes your job easier, you just sustain your block for as long as you can and give effort and have that grit and toughness. He’s going to make plays. He’s a great running back, fast as hell, and I can’t wait to block for him.”

Achane Joins the League of Mega-Deal Stars

Achane is the latest running back to receive an offseason contract. During this window, Travis Etienne Jr., Breece Hall, and Kenneth Walker III were all inked to $48 million, $45.75 million, and $43 million deals, respectively.

Having locked down Achane, Miami will now set their sights on keeping both Aaron Brewer and Jordyn Brooks under contract.

NFL reporter Jordan Schultz broke the contract extension news between Achane and the Dolphins.
