Game 7. Few words in basketball carry more weight, and both the Cleveland Cavaliers and Detroit Pistons know the thrill of that stage. Yankee Scores reports.
On Sunday night, one team will keep its perfect record alive, while the other will see its run end in heartbreak.
Cavaliers and Pistons, for the second consecutive round are headed to a game 7. Cavaliers moved past Toronto Raptors 114-102 to win the first round 4-3. Detroit Pistons survived a first round scare, defeating Orlando Magic 116-94 in a 4-3 series win.
Records on the Line
Detroit enters with a 6‑1 mark in Game 7s since 1990, while Cleveland has gone 5‑0 in winner‑take‑all contests, with two coming on the road, since 2016.
Cavaliers coach Kenny Atkinson summed it up: “It’s tough. It’s hard. And it should be hard. Playoffs are hard. We’ve got to close it out in Game 7.”
Harden’s Perspective
Cleveland won Game 5 in Detroit to take control of the series but missed its chance to finish the series at home, falling 115‑94 in Game 6.
According to guard James Harden, “It’s one game on the road. You’ve got to be detailed, get off to a good start, and sustain it for the entire game,” Harden said.
Pistons’ Resilience
Detroit has thrived under pressure, going 4‑0 in elimination games this season. They have Cade Cunningham credited the team’s poise: “We stay in the moment. We don’t get ahead of ourselves. We stick together.” Coach J.B. Bickerstaff added, “They just don’t quit. The resolve they have is special.”
Rare Path to the Finals
The winner will join a short list of teams advancing to the conference finals after surviving Game 7s in both Round 1 and Round 2. That feat has been accomplished only five times since 2003, most notably by Boston in 2008 en route to an NBA title.
