Jamaica’s Shericka Jackson just put the entire sprinting world on notice, throwing down a blistering 21.87 meeting record to capture the 200m crown, Yankee Scores reports…

Two-time 200m world champion Shericka Jackson shone like a million stars in Xiamen, delivering an absolute masterclass to win the 200m Diamond League.

The Half-Lap Masterclass

Jackson set a new meeting record and missed the world best by just 0.01 seconds with her 21.87 seconds time, winning the race.

The Jamaican runner made a good start and got into the lead from the beginning, showing her skills at the bend.

Shaunea Miller-Uibo of Bahamas clocked 22.04 seconds and set a season best to claim second place while America’s Anavia Battle took third in 22.29 seconds as well with a season best.

“For me, it’s just be patient, be myself and have some fun,” Jackson told FloTrack.

“Last year, I won a bronze medal [at the World Championships in Tokyo]. I definitely wasn’t satisfied, but I wouldn’t say ‘I’m back’ because last year I was competing. Regardless of how fit I was, I showed up.

“I am continuing to work on the fine details. I am a good curve runner and I wanted to run the curve as hard as possible.

“I think I did pretty good tonight. This is the hardest I have ever run a curve since probably 2023. Just to be here and having run and healthy, I’m OK.”

Another season best

World 100 meters champion of 2023 Sha’Carri Richardson ran another season best time of 22.38 seconds for the fourth position.

British runner Amy Hunt, who is the 200 meters world silver medalist, was seventh of nine participants.

Yan Ziyi Re-Writes history

In other news in Xiamen, Chinese girl Yan Ziyi, who is only 18 years old, recorded the second-best throw ever achieved in women’s javelin.

Having been already the world junior record holder at the age of 17, she threw a new Diamond League, Asian and world under-20 record with one throw.
