Jalen Williams will not play in Game 7 for the Thunder against the San Antonio Spurs on Saturday night, Yankee Scores reports…
Williams got injured during Game 2 when he hurt his left hamstring.
He sat out of Games 3, 4, and 5. In Game 6, he played only for ten minutes after coming off the bench in the Thunder’s 118-91 defeat.
Massive Blow for Thunder
“He’s obviously not 100%,” Thunder coach Mark Daigneault said. “He didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t know what to expect. So, it was a matter of getting him out there in kind of an insulated role and see what he can bring to the team. He’s an All-Star player, he’s an All-NBA player. He hasn’t done a full return to play [protocol] like he would if this was the regular season, and yet, he just wants to do whatever he can to try to contribute whatever he can to the team.
“I give him a lot of credit to get himself out there. He did the best he could. He’s certainly not the reason we lost.”
He looked sluggish and made two turnovers. Moreover, Williams dribbled out of bounds and had no energy burst. After the match, Williams went away from the arena named Frost Bank Center.
Game 7 without Jalen
On Friday, the Thunder announced that he will sit out of the next game against the Spurs on Saturday.
Williams was named Third-team All-NBA last season when he was crucial for the team’s success despite playing under the effects of a right wrist injury that required surgery.
This year, the Thunder’s key player played only 33 games because he recovered from the surgery and had another right hamstring injury. During the playoffs, he got a left hamstring strain during the second game and missed six games, but returned in the opener of May 18 against the Spurs.
Should the Thunder win, the NBA finals opener on Wednesday will be against the New York Knicks in Oklahoma City.
